Chronology of Events and Programs
1989
Founded as "Bengali Language and Heritage Center" Began Bengali classes at Monmouth County Library Headquarters.
1990
Incorporated as Non-Profit Corporation in New Jersey.
1991
1991 Drama ("Khirer Putul") performed by students at the GSCA Durga Puja.
1993
Exhibition -- "Showcase of Jewelry and Doll Collection of India" -- at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters.
1996
Changed name to "Mrittika -- A South Asian Center for Language and Heritage".
1997
"Soul of India": A month-long program of Exhibition, Lectures and Drama organized at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters Organized Exhibition at CARABRAM in Brampton, Ontario, Canada Performed Puppet Show at the North American Bengali Conference (Valley Forge, Pennsylvania).
1998
Coordinated a month-long Exhibition -- "Folk Art of India" -- that ended with a Cultural Program at the Atlantic City Art Center on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ.
1999
"Awakening": A variety program with Robert Arnette (the author of "India Unveiled") organized to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Mrittika.
2000
"Bratachari": A dance-cum-exercise program held at the invitation of the Chatham Township Girls Scouts for their Community World Thinking Day celebration.
2001
"Buddha -- The Light of Asia": A program of Drama and Dance organized at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters.
2002
Film Festival with movies of Ashoke Vishwanathan.
